Let’s get started! For this flavorful Brazilian stroganoff recipe, you will need 2lbs of filet mignon or another cut of beef, boneless and cut into small pieces. Alternatively, you can also use chicken fillets to prepare a delicious chicken stroganoff instead.

Step 1: Sauté the beef or chicken

In a large pan or dutch oven, heat up 2 tbsp of olive oil over medium-high heat. Add in minced garlic (about 3 garlic cloves) and stir until fragrant. Add the slices of white onion and cook until softened.

Next, add the beef pieces or chicken fillets and let them cook for a few minutes until browned on all sides. Be sure not to overcrowd the pan – cook the meat in batches if needed. Remove from pan and set aside.

Step 2: Prepare the sauce

In the same pan, add another tablespoon of olive oil followed by white mushrooms sliced thin (about a cup or two) and cook until soft. Pour in 1/2 cup of dry white wine to deglaze the pan, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom.

Add in 1 can of tomato sauce, 2 tbsp ketchup, and 1 tsp mustard. Stir well to combine all ingredients.

Season with 1 tsp oregano, a pinch of nutmeg and salt to taste. Mix well and continue cooking until the sauce has thickened.

Step 3: Combine everything together

Add back in your cooked meat into the sauce and let it simmer gently for about 10-15 minutes until fully cooked through.

Stir in 1 small container of sour cream (or heavy cream instead if you prefer) into the stroganoff mixture, stirring gently over low heat.

Step 4: Serve

Your stroganoff is now ready to be enjoyed! Serve it with rice, pasta or mashed potatoes and sprinkle some potato sticks on top for that extra crunch. This classic Brazilian beef or chicken stroganoff dish pairs perfectly with a glass of red wine and some company – enjoy!

Pro Tip: For a vegetarian option, try swapping the beef or chicken out for ground beef or mushrooms to prepare a flavorful mushroom stroganoff.

As with many recipes, there are various substitutions and variations that can be made to this Brazilian stroganoff dish to cater to personal preferences or dietary requirements. Here are some suggestions:

– Protein: This recipe calls for either beef or chicken, but you can also use other meats like pork or even tofu for a vegetarian option.

– Mushroom: White mushrooms are best for this recipe, but you can also use cremini mushrooms or other varieties if you prefer.

– Sour cream: If you don’t have sour cream on hand, you can substitute it with Greek yogurt, heavy cream or coconut cream. Keep in mind that the taste and texture may differ slightly.

– Tomato sauce: For a more tomato-based dish, you can increase the amount of ketchup or add canned crushed tomatoes.

– Spices: Aside from oregano and nutmeg, you can add other spices like thyme or rosemary to enhance the flavor of the dish.

– Potato sticks: Traditionally, this dish is served with golden potato sticks on top. However, you can skip this topping or use shoestring fries or chopped potatoes instead.

– Gluten-free: To make this recipe gluten-free, substitute wheat flour with cornstarch or another gluten-free flour and serve it over rice instead of pasta.

Serving stroganoff is as crucial as making it delicious. In Brazil, a typical serving of stroganoff often consists of white rice, potato sticks, and sometimes with a green salad on the side. The comforting texture and mouthwatering aroma make it perfect for cold evenings. The velvety and smooth sauce served over your choice of protein transform this dish into a decadent main course.

When it comes to pairing stroganoff, the options are limited only by your imagination. The creaminess of the sauce goes well with starched foods such as rice, potatoes or bread, which complement the hearty and rich flavors.

A glass of dry white wine or sparkling mineral water is our recommended pairing. If you are looking to handle something heavier, go with Brazilian red wine or beer type “Stout”. It will create an excellent balance with the richness of the dish, enhancing your taste buds’ experience.

In conclusion, serving stroganoff should be fun, treated with ease but pleasant to the eye. Always remember that creating a welcoming table setting will elevate any meal. Now that you know how to serve tasty stroganoff let’s tune in to cooking it!

If you want to make the perfect Brazilian stroganoff or Estrogonofe, there are a few tips that you can follow. With these tips, you can ensure that your dish comes out of the kitchen perfectly every time.

Firstly, don’t rush the cooking process. Make sure to cook the onions and garlic in olive oil until they’re golden brown before adding meat. This will give your sauce a rich and deep flavor.

Secondly, season your meat with salt and pepper before cooking it. This step is crucial for ensuring maximum flavor in your stroganoff or estrogonofe.

Thirdly, always use fresh ingredients. Using fresh mushrooms, onion, garlic, and herbs will give your dish full-bodied and savory flavors that canned or dried ingredients can’t replicate.

Fourthly, while making beef stroganoff, it’s essential to select the right cut of beef since the quality of meat is one of the most critical aspects that determine the taste of this dish. Therefore, choose filet mignon for best results.

Fifthly, another significant factor for making stroganoff is choosing the right kind of cream. While sour cream is commonly used in traditional recipes, Brazilian Stroganoff is often made with heavy cream instead of sour cream. If you prefer a tangy taste in your recipe, use sour cream; otherwise, go for heavy cream.

Sixthly, when adding mustard and ketchup in your recipe, add each element separately to taste progressively rather than putting full amounts at once. This way of adjusting will help create a lovely balance and gives an excellent depth of flavor to the sauce.

Finally, some choose to add potato sticks on top of their dish before serving as a finishing touch- this gives an extra crispy texture in the mouth; however, it’s optional.

By following these simple tips, you can achieve delicious results with every Brazilian stroganoff or estrogonofe that you make.
