From an Immigrant to a Chef

Memories of my early childhood in a small Rio de Janeiro shantytown remain vivid. I was enthralled by the country’s diverse culinary culture. I spent hours observing the kitchen staff, admiring their finesse and precision as they prepared exquisite dishes. I made a decision – I wanted to learn the same skills and create my own recipes. I eventually saved enough money to move to the United States, where I enrolled in a culinary school. Despite the language barrier and cultural unfamiliarity, I was determined to make it work. I worked hard, honing my craft and eventually opening my own restaurant. Now, as a chef, I feel a sense of joy in being able to share my unique cuisine with the world.

My restaurant has been a success, and I’m proud of the work I’ve achieved. I love watching my customers enjoy the food I create, and I’m proud to be able to share my culture and cuisine with them. I’m also proud of the way I’ve been able to use my knowledge and skills to help others in my community. I’m a mentor to aspiring chefs, and I’m always looking for ways to give back and help others pursue their dreams. My childhood in Rio de Janeiro may have been humble, but it gave me a unique perspective and valuable skills that have allowed me to make a success of my business.
